Make Instagram Photos With PicMonkey {A Tutorial}

July 19, 2012 Becca Ludlum

There are so many awesome Instagram-related products out there right now, and I want them all. Jewelry with wearagrams, phone cases with casetagram, and a few great My Life products over at Paper Coterie, for starters (I’m getting ready to order this My Life memory box, actually!). Don’t have Instagram? That’s ok, I’m going to tell you how to make Instagram Photos with PicMonkey.

There are three problems with making Instagram products on your computer.

Problem 1. Instagram is for your phone only.

Solution: Web viewers such as Webstagram. If there are photos on Instagram that you want to use for ordering these products, you can login and grab them with Webstagram.

Problem 2. I don’t have an iPhone or a Droid, so I can’t use Instagram!

Solution: There’s hope! If you don’t have access to Instagram, but still want to order cool Instagram products, see solution 3.

Problem 3. I don’t post all of my favorite photos to Instagram.

Solution: PicMonkey. Without uploading all of your photos and overloading your Instagram friends with 30 cute photos of your kids for your iPhone case, you can make a photo look like it’s been through Instagram with a few easy steps.

I’ll show you how :)

1. Head on over to PicMonkey.com and click on “Edit a Photo.”

2. Select your photo. If you have a PC, your screen won’t look the same as mine – we are a hard core Mac family.

3. Once your photo is uploaded into PicMonkey, click “crop” over on the top of the left side of the screen.

A box will show up around your photo, and dimensions (horizontal x vertical) will show up under where you just clicked. Don’t panic ;)

4. To get a nice sized square and use the most of your photo, drag the vertical (side) edges of the box to the outer edges of your photo. My photo is 1200 wide, so in the boxes I’ll make both numbers 1200 to make a square. Your photo might be bigger or smaller. As long as your dimensions aren’t smaller than 310×310, you’re fine with whatever number you choose.

Select “apply.”

5. Now we need to resize your photo. No, you didn’t just do that – you cropped it. Trust me on this.

The *magic* Instagram number is about 310, so as long as your photo isn’t smaller than 310 the quality should be fine. I usually resize to about 400×400.

Select “apply.”

6. Time to have some fun! Add a frame. Click “apply” when you find one you like.

7.  Now, add an effect. I used the Film Edge frame…

…and the Cross Process effect.

You did it! This process goes quicker and quicker every time you do it, so please don’t be dissuaded by how much time this first one may have taken you.

Now, your turn! Tell me what Insta-product you are dying to create!

Its such as you read my thoughts! You seem to understand a
lot approximately this, such as you wrote the e
book in it or something. I think that you just could do
with a few % to power the message home a little bit, but other than that,
that is wonderful blog. An excellent read. I’ll certainly be back.

The Google search engine yields results on several pages annd prikritise
them according to ranking. Increased distribution of
client content via the Internet to a new andd growing list of social networking websites has created
a significant gropwth in demand for online content with a resulting requirement tthat businesses adapt thejr content distribution strategy to
fit this new paradigm. If youu can program in multiple computer languages, you
probably don’t need website generating software.

      Lindsay,

Instagram is only available for mobile devices :-/

That’s why I asked how are you uploading them to Instagram. Do you send them to your phone or iPad or another device like it?! That was my question. I know it’s a mobile app only.

Ahh, ok – I’m sorry. I see what you’re asking. I usually only do this when I want a photo to match the others in a blog post, or for ordering custom products–not to upload them to Instagram.

To get the image from my computer to my phone, I’d use Dropbox or MedaFire, or maybe even email it to myself and open it on my phone.

      :)
