I found a service that you need.
Yes, you.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a mom, a kid, a blogger, a sports enthusiast, all of the above or none of the above. There is some way that IFTTT can help you.
IFTTT stands for “If This, Then That” and is pronounced like “gift” but without the g. It automates just about any online task you can think of.
The IFTTT website (and app) has thousands of recipes you can use with 65 different services to automate just about any online activity.
How Can Moms Use IFTTT?
A great way to keep track of what your child is posting to social media is to set up text alerts when they post to Instagram. This is also a good way to see post from those you want to keep up with but never seem to be on Instagram at the same time.
Text reminders for chores. #boom
Sign your child up for text alerts when their teachers post assignments to their blogs. They’ll definitely thank you for this one :)
How Can Bloggers Use IFTTT?
We all know you can only connect one facebook account to Pinterest, and it kind of stinks. IFTTT gives you a way to add pins from certain (or all) Pinterest boards to your facebook fan page! Need to find an other way to post from your blog to facebook? Since facebook doesn’t show posts from Newtorked Blogs (the standby RSS to facebook feed service) to as many of your fans, try using IFTTT to autopost!
Just like Pinterest, you can only link one facebook account at a time with Instagram. Hashtag your photo with #yourblogname and have it automatically sent to your blog’s fan page!
How Can Sports Enthusiasts Use IFTTT?
Set up text alerts through ESPN to receive real-time alerts to breaking sports news on your phone.
Follow news and score updates from your favorite teams via email.
And for those fantasy sports players, make sure they don’t miss a thing when their teams are up for draft.
The users over at IFTTT also have a sense of humor. Every once in a while you’ll run across something like this when browsing:
I’m signing Michael up for that reminder service.
Using IFTTT is simple. Login to the website or iPhone app, choose a recipe or create your own, link your accounts and you’re off. IFTTT will start working immediately.
Work smarter, not harder, right?
I’ve been using IFTTT for quite some time now and love it!
Ohhh I luv this website! I think they have an app too, I downloaded and then did nothing with. But yeah you can go kind of crazy setting things up!
Thanks for stopping by, Sarah!
I did the same – downloaded the app and was intimidated by all the choices! Once I saw down for a few minutes I was amazed by all it did!!
I’ve been liking dlvrit and buffer for posting blog links to FB and Twitter, but it’s good too experiment and change it up on fb. There are some great shortcuts but my fav is text message when the zombie apocalypse starts. :)
Dang it! I totally forgot that one, Darcy!!!
Love everything you are teaching us. But my old mind can only learn so much and I’m still learning things on my iPhone…..
Hi,
I stumbled upon your blog when I typed the following into Google, “How come I don’t see the value in IFTTT”. I did sign up, and created a recipe using Craigslist and I asked to have it send me an alert anytime a Toyota P/U was listed. I got many email alerts from IFTTT but they were all totally unrelated to the “recipe” I created. I still see references online to IFTTT so I thought I’d see if there were any tutorials, but have yet to come across any. I find the website confusing and I’m not a novice to the computer.
Hmmm… I’m not sure, Steve. Have you tried reaching out to IFTTT on twitter? They seem pretty responsive there!
